Rodgers on the gap

Last summer we were told by John Brown that Celtic had appointed Brendan Rodgers out of fear. Fear that ‘Rangers’ were coming.

Now Celtic fans should be worrying about the gap that their side has created with the rest of Scottish football- one club in particular.

Celtic’s 26 point advantage over Aberdeen seems less relevant than the 36 point lead that they hold over Pedro Caixinha and the best squad in the country.

In two months time Rodgers’ focus will be on Champions League qualifiers- matched created by being the best team in the country.

The Irishman has transformed every player at Celtic and isn’t batting an eye-lid over the fact that other clubs have been unable to keep upto speed with developments in the east end.

Asked about the gap he told The Sun: “I don’t think about it so much. I get asked nearly every week about the gap.

The first thing to point out is when I first came in here, it was deemed it was going to be a very close season.

It’s not something that’s happened by accident. The gap has been created by the players and their performances.

I only worry about Celtic and taking this club forward and if that creates a gap so be it. My aim is to make the gap even bigger.”

On Saturday Rodgers will be looking for a win over St Johnstone to sustain Celtic’s unbeaten record with the hoops four matches away from completing the SPFL campaign without a loss.
