Kieran Tierney has explained what it means to have the backing of the Celtic support.

The teenager revelled in Sunday’s SPFL title presentation, holing aloft a North Curve Celtic scarf, posing for a selfie with the Green Brigade in the background and taking the megaphone to start a chant.

In the modern age fan-player relationships can be one way and stand offish but that’s not the case with Tierney who is either a fan playing for the club or a player who is a fan.

After spending two months of rehab supporting the team from the stands Tierney is never slow to recognise the role that fans play in the success of the team.

Looking back on Sunday he told The Sun: “It was brilliant. It shows the emotions after a long, hard league campaign. What we’ve achieved is brilliant and something the club can be proud of.

I enjoyed going over to see them at the end. It’s brilliant playing for these fans. They are always there for us and it was good to give something back to them.”

Like all Celtic fans Tierney has been delighted by the impact that Brendan Rodgers has had on the club.

Twelve months after taking over as manager every aspect of the club has been transformed with the team looking to complete the treble on Saturday by beating Aberdeen in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Tierney could have been travelling to Hampden as a fan on Sunday after signing a big money deal last summer but only has eyes for pulling on a green and white jersey.

I was working towards earning a new deal at Celtic,” he added. “Luckily that came about.

The club could have brought in anybody as manager and I would have stayed but after speaking to Brendan I knew something special was happening.

That has continued — every time you speak to him you’re motivated. I felt I made the right decision to stay at Celtic.”
