Brendan Rodgers wants his players to make a lifestyle commitment to improve their careers.

Earlier this year the Celtic boss went public with his concerns about Leigh Griffiths after the striker had a run of injuries while deputising for Moussa Dembele.

Ronny Deila brought in the phrase 24 hour athletes but under Rodgers that mentality and attitude is essential if you are to be part of his plans.

The talent is here but will they take the responsibility,” Rodgers explained to Chris Sutton during a wide ranging interview on BT Sport. “Will they make the commitment to be a better player, can they improve their life?

Can they see that ‘ok I’m a talent but it’s more than talent, I need to work’. They can go on and make more money here or beyond but that’s all going to be about here and how you approach your life or do you want to have a night out. Are you happier to go on nights out and forfeit that?

I think one of the biggest changes that I made here was on lifestyle. Really devote your time, you can have fun and I really want them to enjoy themselves but like anything in life it’s about timing.

The modern game demands that. You can’t get away with it maybe the way that you did years ago. It’s very tough. Lifestyle up here is absolutely vital for the player.

Each individual club will have their own ethos but here, to be a Champions League player consistently then there is a certain demand. There’s a price to pay for that.”

Rodgers has brought in a number of fitness and analysis consultants to ensure that he gets the maximum out of his players.

Despite a gruelling season injuries have been fairly light with only Tom Rogic out for an extended spell.

With the Scottish Cup Final less than a fortnight away Moussa Dembele is the only fitness concern with the striker suffering a hamstring injury during the 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Sevco at Hampden.
