Craig Whyte has been freed after being found not guilty of fraud as he bought Rangers (IL) for £1 in 2011 from Dave Murray.

At enormous public expense for no real reason the former billionaire has been put through the trauma of having his takeover of the Govan based institution questioned.

Murray claimed to the media that he had been duped but to most observers it was the buyer that was duped as he took on a business that had been teetering on the brink for years.

With a tax bill of £2.8m lying unpaid, stadium repairs put on hold and Lloyds Bank demanding repayment of £18m the plans of the Lanarkshire businessman were effectively scuppered when Ally McCoist’s side crashed out of the Champions League to Malmo.

Having been granted a UEFA licence despite owing the tax man the whole enterprise was dependent on Champions League money for survival.

After 31 days of evidence the jury took two hours to return a not guilty verdict on the man known as Sir Craigy Bhoy to thousands of Celtic fans.
