With perfect timing the board of Sevco have appointed Alastair Johnston as a director of Rangers International Football Club.

The US based freeloader was a director of Rangers (IL) until 2011 when he was removed by Craig Whyte.

The announcement came at almost the same time as Whyte was pronounced not guilty in the fraud trial relating to his £1 purchase from Dave Murray.

During the trial Johnston was portrayed as a business amateur as he delayed paying a £2.8m bill to HMRC and claimed that the club debt was the fault of Lloyds Bank for lending money to the struggling company.

Johnston joins a new company that hasn’t produced audited accounts since 30 June 2016 with those accounts carrying a going concern warning.

With chairman Dave King refusing to act on the ruling of the Takeover Appeal Board and Sports Direct taking the company to court for various breaches it looks like Johnston is the very man not to turn to in a crisis.
