Pedro Caixinha has shocked Sevco fans by revealing that he is not a miracle worker.
After three weeks of hype and spin as the stars of world soccer jetted in to join his revolution reality made an unwelcome visit to Ibrox last night- it included James Tavernier, Jason Holt and Martyn Waghorn.
Eight of the starting XI were already at the club when the fifth best coach in Qatar took charge with last night’s 1-0 win over Progres Niederkorn leaving the door open for the fourth best club in Luxembourg to record their first ever European win.
After the match Caixinha shocked the fans by revealing to The Sun: “I’m not a guy that can make miracles in three weeks.
“Only between five and six weeks in pre-season one team is ready to play and we’ve had just three, so we know the reality we are facing.
“The majority of the players had a good performance, a good rhythm. It’s not a question of fitness but it’s more a question of better decisions and more aggression
“‘I am not patient, but we need to understand where we are. This is the first challenge.
“We were all expecting to win by more but we have to give value to the team we were facing. They played with their weapons, defending and looking for a mistake from us.
“If we were not having the quality and the ideas since we have been working on day one, I would maybe a bit more worried but I know that it is a question of time. And I know for sure that next Tuesday the team will be much better.”
The match ticket didn’t mention that the players were short of fitness after being given a ten day break after last season’s multiple failures.
Tuesday’s return match in Luxembourg promises to be a massive test with most of the Progres players getting time off from their real jobs working in supermarkets and call centres to prepare for the match.
It’s understood that Progres have the documentation that proves that Sevco shouldn’t have been given a licence to play in UEFA competition due to multiple FFP breaches.
