UEFA will split the second round draw for the Champions League into geographical groups.

In a statement on the UEFA website they claimed ‘Before the draw, clubs are split into groups with equal numbers of seeded and unseeded teams who are drawn together.’

In recent seasons Celtic have enjoyed fairly straightforward matches against clubs from Iceland and north east Ireland although last year they ended up travelling to Gibraltar after unseeded Lincoln Red Imps overcame Estonian side Flora Tallin.

Ten teams will enter the first round draw with the ties being played next Tuesday and Wednesday with the second round qualifiers played on July 11/12 and 18/19.

The highest ranked team that Celtic could be drawn against at this stage would be Lithuanian champions Zalgiris Vilnius with Spartaks Jurmala of Latvia the side with the lowest co-efficient.

In the highly unlikely event of all ties going to form Celtic’s play-off round opponents will be one of BATE Borisov, Legia Warsaw, APOEL Nicosia, Maribor or Qarabag.

The draw will be covered live on the UEFA website and starts at 11am Celtic Park time.
