Doncaster’s amazing claim

Neil Doncaster has claimed that the SPFL has tightened up the governance of Scottish football.

In 2012 the former Norwich chief tried everything possible to parachute Sevco into the tyop flight after overseeing the liquidation of Rangers.

A ten point deduction was applied to a club that stopped paying Income Tax and National Insurance in September- two months into the season.

No Financial Fair Play ruling has been brought into Scottish football to ensure that clubs react responsibly although Hearts and Aberdeen run under UEFA guidelines to ensure that they are compliant.

How Sevco have been given a UEFA licence by the SFA seems to be stretching regulations to the limit and beyond but Doncaster has claimed that the SPFL ensures basic responsibilities are kept.

He told the Daily Record: “The rules within the SPFL were changed dramatically in the aftermath of what happened with Rangers in terms of taxes being paid and players being paid on time.

Making any predictions about the future is fraught. If anybody had predicted what was going to happen in the past five years they would have been laughed out of town.

We are in a new place now with Rangers back in the Premiership and we also look forward to a top flight with the return of Hibs making it as competitive as it has been for a while.”

With the Ibrox basket case in full flow Doncaster won’t have to wait five years to update his CV on how he deals with insolvency events.
