The Magic Money Tree

On General Election Day there is plenty of debate about the Magic Money Tree.

Most politicians will deny that it exists in their scripted answers but over at Ibrox it seems to be producing the goods.

Dave King was laughed at when he told the fans that their season ticket money would be invested in the playing squad but for once the South African based criminal could be about to deliver on his promises.

Audited or not recent Ibrox statements confirm that the club is on its uppers, constantly spending more than it earns and reliant on the backing of the three bears to survive month by month.

Some Tory austerity would seem to be the cure but instead it seems that a Magic Money Tree is about to pump money into the Mexican economy.

With four players already added to the payroll Sevco are poised to bring in £3.85m of Mexican talent.

According to the Sports Witness website Carlos Pena will cost US$3.5m (£2.7m) while Eduardo Herrera will be a US$1.5m (£1.15m) signing.

Assuming that Mexican clubs are aware of the toxic credit rating of the Ibrox club that sort of expenditure will require up front payments of close to £3m with the balance to be paid over 12 or 24 months.

With season tickets costing an average of £400 it will take the season ticket sales for the full Copland Road stand to purchase two players- that’s before they get paid any wages.

How this Magic Money Tree is being funded is anyone’s guess, there is next to no interest in the squad that Mark Warburton assembled, the former city trader has barely been linked with taking any of them to Nottingham Forest.

With more signings planned the Magic Money Tree shows no sign of being pruned- funding it through the winter even with the unlikely bonus of Europa League group stage football will require the help of billionaires from Motherwell.
