Heart-broken Andy Halliday will be in Austria when Sevco emerge for their historic Europa League debut against Progres Niederkorn on Thursday night.

The midfield power house, who was born and brought up on the Copland Road, helped the club to promotion in the 2015/16 season then was one of the driving forces in last season’s commendable third place finish in the top flight.

New boss Pedro Caixinha failed to be impressed by the 25-year-old’s efforts and banished Halliday from the top team squad.

Rather than train with the rising starlets of Murray Park Halliday is hoping to earn a season long loan with FC Gabala of Azerbaijan who will enter the Europa League at the second round stage.

Caixinha has axed five other players from the squad that he described as the best in Scotland as he prepares to try and negotiate through four qualifying rounds to reach the group phase of the Europa League.

Having rejected Barry Ferguson and Alex Rae as candidates for the role of being number three alienating a Real Rangers Man like Halliday will create further enemies for the fifth best coach in Qatar.

By going out on loan for a season Halliday will be hoping to return to a new manager when his loan deal expires.
