Spineless Dave King claims his latest comments about Celtic have been misunderstood.

The South African based criminal made a hurried visit to Glasgow last week urging the gullible to buy tat from Sports Direct after a two year stand off with Mike Ashley’s company.

With the cold shoulder lurking for disobeying the Takeover Appeal Board, Sports Direct are cutting all ties with King including a seven year tie in to manage the Sevco retail deal.

Big hearted Ashley agreed that King could present the bad news as a stunning victory for himself with the shameless liar quickly getting carried away.

After claiming that Celtic should be further than 39 points ahead of his tribute act he told an interview on the club’s in-house TV station that Celtic had only won two back-to-back titles since four of the current run didn’t involve a club from Ibrox.

Dropping in some explosive comments then back tracking with a misquoted claim is a favourite tactic of politicians with a local media agency issuing a qualification from the man that paid £19m to avoid 82 years in Roben Island.

People have accused me of disparaging Celtic’s achievements on the pitch last season,” The Sun reports King saying.

That is incorrect. That wasn’t my intention and I don’t want to be mean-spirited about Celtic. I have great respect for what Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic team did in winning the Treble. It was a fantastic achievement.

If you look at what happened on the pitch, it became very clear how big the gap was, and where we needed to be.

That was the reality, we needed to make significant changes, and we did. We changed our management structure and brought in new players.

The point I made was that, as an institution Rangers would not have been in a position to do that two years ago. The institution was broken then. That gap has narrowed to the extent we could go into the transfer market plus appoint a director of football.”

After attending one match last season King is unlikely to be seen again at Ibrox before stepping down to concentrate on his South African commitments having freed the tribute act from the Ashley deal.

In April 2016 Sevco beat Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, 12 months later they lost to the hoops and were 34 points behind after getting pumped 5-1 at Ibrox.
