Brendan Rodgers squad trimming exercise is picking up pace with two more fringe players closing in on moves.

Bristol City are favourites to sign Saidy Janko with the full-back impressing on loan in the Championship with Barnsley while Sheffield United and Aberdeen are interested in Gary Mackay-Steven.

Rodgers probably has half a dozen players that he would like to move on in order to get his squad down to a workable number.

Last summer the Irishman quickly moved on half a dozen players including Charlie Mulgrew and Anthony Stokes who both ended up signing for Blackburn Rovers.

Reducing the squad size will make little difference to Rodgers’ plans with the former Liverpool boss single minded with his use of the players he inherited from Ronny Deila.

Despite impressing in the early season Champions League qualifiers Eoghan O’Connell has left for Bury with Kris Commons and Efe Ambrose leaving without the offer of a fresh contract.
