Jonny Hayes on Celtic deal

Celtic are famously secretive about transfer business.

There tends to be a lack of fuss and speculation until a deal is completed and the player is explaining what it feels like to be a Celtic player.

The Jonny Hayes ‘transfer saga’ seems a bit different with Celtic’s interest emerging two days after the Scottish Cup Final.

It’s an obvious link through the Reading connection that the Aberdeen winger shares with Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic, typically, haven’t commented on the matter but after playing for Ireland against Uruguay Hayes decided to comment on the issue.

If a deal was likely he could have smiled at the question and put it all down to speculation, instead he revealed that there has been contact about a move to Celtic.

Speaking to The Sun about Celtic’s interest Hayes said: “We’ve obviously known about it for a while now. There have been a few things developing with the club.

It means you are doing something right if somebody else is taking a look. You can take it as a compliment. As far as I’m aware I am still an Aberdeen player.

I enjoy it there and it’s an old cliche but we’ll wait and see what happens. I just wanted to finish the season with Aberdeen and I signed a new deal there in January.

I was really just concentrating on that. Whatever happens over the summer will happen.”

Cardiff City were strongly linked with Hayes in January and are again interested in the Irishman along with Birmingham City.

Hayes is under contract until 2019.
