Image for King slams Whyte verdict

Dave King claims that he was a ‘bit astonished’ that the Crown Prosecution failed to get a guilty verdict on Craig Whyte over the charge that he fraudulently took control of Rangers (IL) for £1 in 2011.

The former billionaire was found not guilty on two charges by a jury which is perhaps a foreign concept to King who was able to buy his way out of an 84 year jail sentence in South Africa.

King was a director of the club before and after Whyte’s takeover and made no comment despite the club deciding to stop making payments to HMRC in September 2011- within 12 months the club was put into administration followed by liquidation.

Speaking to The Sun King said: “When I came over to give evidence, I was told the strategy had changed and they were not going to call me or Alastair Johnston or Paul Murray — any of the former directors.

I was surprised because I felt having stayed on the board, the paper trail I had was important in terms of convicting him.

I had to assume that they knew what they were doing and they had a strategy. Police Scotland put together a good case but the Crown failed to prosecute it as well as it had been prepared for them. It’s disappointing. I was a bit astonished.”

During the trial it emerged that King was involved in the purchase of stolen documentation from Whyte that later appeared on line as the Charlotte Fakes twitter account.

Having been publicly criticised by King it remains to be seen if any action will now be taken against the South African based criminal who hasn’t responded to a Court of Session charge that he has failed to comply with the terms of Takeover Appeal Board ruling.
