Harry Redknapp understands why most English Premier League clubs would jump at the chance of having Brendan Rodgers as manager- and why the Irishman only has eyes for Celtic.

Many English pundits seem to think that Rodgers is a phone call from West Brom or Stoke away from quitting Celtic but Redknapp appreciates the unique situation that Rodgers is in.

Europe will always be the benchmark to judge Celtic managers with the Irishman making a favourable impression last season despite difficult circumstances.

“Brendan’s done ever so well at Celtic,” Redknapp told The Sun. “Do I see him coming back to England?
“Yes, eventually — and it would be another good job but people forget, Celtic are one of THE big clubs in world football. You mention them anywhere and there is instant recognition for Celtic.
“I believe Brendan’s capable of taking Celtic beyond the Champions League group stages.
“I know how hard it is to do well in that competition but Celtic did tremendously well in two games against Pep Guardiola’s Man City team — and we know how much money they’ve spent.
“There’s no reason why Celtic can’t get to the group stage and progress from that.
“A top manager can make a difference, but listen, any manager also needs top players and right now Celtic look like they have a very well balanced team.”
