Deluded Kyle Lafferty has claimed that Hearts will end Celtic’s 48 game unbeaten domestic record.
Last season the hoops won both domestic trophies, won 34 and drew 4 on the Premiership matches scoring over 100 goals and picking up 106 points.
Hearts were beaten four times during that run including a 5-0 hammering at Tynecastle to clinch the title with the scoreline flattering the host club.
Lafferty joined Hearts after being freed by Norwich City and returns to Scottish football after refusing to TUPE his Rangers (IL) contract over to Sevco.
The Irishman has always been better known for opening his mouth than scoring goals and hasn’t taken long to make foolish predictions.
“We want to be the first team to beat them,” the Norwich reject told the Daily Record. “I think we can. I am going to thrive on that kind of game.
“Games don’t come much bigger than playing against the champions on flag day. Celtic will be right up for it.
“We are still trying to get to know each other but come August 5 we will be bang at it. Hearts will give Celtic a tough match and it will be an exciting game that’s for sure.”
Hearts will play their first four matches of the new season away from home as construction of the new main stand at Tynecastle is completed.
After taking the club from second to fifth after replacing Robbie Nielson the pressure is on Ian Cathro with the club refusing to challenge the SFA over missing out on a Europa League place to a club that had multiple breaches of the Financial Fair Play regulations.
