Peter Swann has called Sevco’s bluff over a ‘bidding war’ for Matt Crooks.

The former Accrington starlet was on loan at Scunthorpe late last season with manager Graham Alexander keen to bring him in on a permanent deal.

Chairman Swann has been put in charge of negotiations but has found the Ibrox club difficult to deal with.

Sevco fans were unhappy at picking up just £350,000 for the transfer of Barrie McKay to Nottingham Forest with the Ibrox board attempting to put on a tough guy image in negotiations with Scunthorpe.

Swann told the Sun: “They have not accepted our bid but I believe they have accepted a bid from another club.

We have put a deal on the table which is a really good deal for him.

I think we know him, we know how to look after him and he’d benefit from us.

If he’s going to go somewhere for more money, I can completely understand that.”

If Scunthorpe walk away Sevco better move quickly to complete the other offer otherwise they’ll be left with the player and face the embarrassment of having to go back to Scunthorpe in a bid to move the player on.

Speaking to a Portuguese publication Pedro Caixinha stated that he wanted to lose 14 players, so far he has managed to get rid of five players from last season’s squad.

Crooks is under contract until 2020.
