Kieran Tierney has recognised the man who kick started his Celtic career- John McStay.

The father of former Celts Paul, Willie and Raymond spent a lifetime supporting Celtic in every way possible and passed away on Friday.

Apart from taking his three boys to Celtic Park John scouted across Lanarkshire with Tierney one of the players that he brought to the club.

The Wishaw kid has progressed through the ranks and is now one of the most important players in Brendan Rodgers squad.

Like many players across the club’s academy his break came when he was spotted by John McStay who brought him into the academy structure.

Attitude has always been as important as ability for players that make the breakthrough with Tierney’s determination highlighted at the Scottish Cup Final in May when he left hospital to get back to Hampden to pick up his winners medal, hearing Tom Rogic’s winning goal on the radio on route back to the stadium.
