Northampton Town have joined Scunthorpe in the race to sign Matt Crooks from Sevco.

According to a report on Scunthorpe site Iron Bru a £100,000 bid has been tabled by their club with Northampton set to make a similar bid.

Twelve months ago Crooks was greeted as a breakthrough signing by the Ibrox club after joining up from Accrington Stanley alongside Josh Windass.

A new buying and selling model was about to be implemented with some reports claiming that Arsenal had shown interest in the Accrington duo.

Reality suggested that the main reason they had been signed was because they were out of contract with their performances last season doing nothing to suggest future profits.

Crooks was sent on loan to Scunthorpe in January but returned early after being crocked and was left out of Pedro Caixinha’s squad for the Europa ;League humiliation from Progres Niederkorn.

After telling a Portuguese newspaper that he wanted to get rid of 14 players Pedro Caixinha has only managed to move on Barrie McKay, Andy Halliday and Joe Garner while Clint Hill and Pip Senderos didn’t get their contracts renewed.

Crooks and Windass are under contract until 2020.
