Brendan Rodgers hasn’t closed the door on Patrick Roberts returning to Celtic.

The winger spent 18 months on loan at Celtic but will return to pre-season training with Manchester City on Monday.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in taking Roberts on loan but the player is wanting to see where he ranks with Pep Guardiola before making any decision on his future.

Celtic have made their interest known and are understood to have made offers for a permanent deal or a further loan.

The signing of Jonny Hayes restored Celtic’s compliment of wingers but speaking on Friday Rodgers hasn’t given up hope of working again with Roberts.

We got the best player outside of Celtic in Jonny Hayes,” the Celtic boss told the Daily Mail.

In my time, he was the one player I always had in the back of my mind could hurt us. Knowing Jonny as a kid I knew the impact he could have.

Losing Patrick Roberts going back to Man City I needed to have Scotty (Sinclair), James (Forrest), one other, and if something opens up later on for Pat to come back or someone else to come in then fine.”

Celtic continue their pre-season build up with a game against Rapid Vienna this afternoon with Rodgers using the three match trip to Austria and the Czech Republic to build up match fitness.

On Tuesday the hoops will find out whether they face Linfield or La Fiorita in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers with the Belfast side taking a 1-0 lead into the away leg.
