Kris Commons believes that Brendan Rodgers has rewritten the coaching manual.

In under a year the Irishman transformed Celtic, opening Commons’ eyes to a depth of coaching that he couldn’t previously imagine.

While Rodgers is undoubtedly a talented coach and a fantastic man manager he backs that up with hours of study, preparation, reading and networking.

Anything that can give his players an advantage on the pitch is explored with a level of professionalism that was unheard of a decade ago.

Some managerial phonies attempt to baffle by technology and coach by PowerPoint but Rodgers earns his corn game by game by selecting the tactics and making the changes that matter on the park.

In the Daily Mail Commons explains: β€œHe leaves the training ground late at night knowing what he wants to do the next morning. He is a perfectionist.

β€œBrendan has given me an insight into what a top coach is about. It is is a 16-hour day, every day. He might get a week off in the summer but there will be phone calls about players or whatever. Does he every switch off from football?”

Commons is hoping to make a playing comeback but in the meantime has a growing media portfolio.

As well as regular work with Sky Sports and Radio Scotland he has started a column with the Daily Mail with no shortage of other offers as he attempts to get over the back injury which ruined his final season at Celtic.
