Celtic are hopeful that Eboue Kouassi won’t be out injured for long.

The midfielder suffered a knee injury against Kilmarnock on Tuesday night and was replaced by Olivier Ntcham.

Kouassi joined Celtic in January from Russian side Krasnodar but was almost instantly floored with a bout of malaria.

After missing out on the pre-season matches in Austria and the Czech Republic the teenager started the friendlies against Lyon and Sunderland as Brendan Rodgers started to bring him into the first team picture.

Asked about the injury against Kilmarnock John Kennedy told The Sun: “Eboue is being assessed. He is still to have a scan, but hopefully we’ll have an idea over the weekend.

We were worried at first when he came off injured, but he is in a slightly better place, so medically it is looking a bit more positive. We just need to wait for the specialist to get the scan results.”

Celtic are well covered for midfielders but as the only signing during the January transfer window Kouassi is clearly a player that Rodgers has a lot of faith in.

With Moussa Dembele, Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata all out for the remainder of August the hoops have had plenty of injuries to contend with as they approach the Champions League play-off ties against Astana.

Rodgers can add one player to his squad before 11pm on Monday but a late addition is looking unlikely.
