Patrick Roberts has admitted that he kept a keen eye on Celtic’s Champions League draw as he sat watching it unfold with Manchester City team-mates.

Last Thursday Celtic could have been heading for another pair of matches with City but the draw sent Brendan Rodgers’ squad to face Bayern Munich, Paris St Germain and Anderlecht.

Roberts experienced the Champions League last season- including a goal scored against City at the Etihad- and will go straight into the Celtic side to face Neymar and Kylian Mbappe on September 12.

I watched it in Manchester with all the lads there, but I had an eye on Celtic to see who they got,” he revealed to the Celtic website. “It’s a hard draw but it’s good, and it’s where I strive to play in, while we know what this club can bring to the Champions League. I haven’t seen the Celtic lads yet but I’m sure they will all be looking forward to it and will be raring to go when it gets underway.

Celtic Park was rocking last year in the Champions League and I’m sure it will be the exact same this year. I would love to be out there playing for the fans in that environment and entertaining them.”

Roberts signing has been greeted with joy by Celtic fans who have waited all summer for the news.

The winger was originally signed in January 2016 with Celtic negotiating a season and a half long deal to ensure that Roberts could play in last season’s Champions League qualifiers.

An injury in the home tie against Astana ruled him out of the Play Off against Hapoel Beer Sheva but he returned for the group stage and opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw with City at the Etihad.
