Mick McCarthy can’t believe his good luck in new signings Joey Garner and Martyn Waghorn.

After starting the season being tipped for relegation Ipswich have started the new campaign with three wins out of three with the former Ibrox duo plundering the goals.

Garner and Waghorn have helped themselves to five goals so far and were on target last night with three of Ipswich’s four goals in the 4-3 win at Millwall.

I had a good time in Glasgow, we nicked the cup off Rangers and I’ve just nicked two strikers from them as well!” he told the East Anglian Daily Times.

I knew Martyn was a good player, but he’s better than I thought he was.”

It’s believed that Ipswich paid less than £1m for the two strikers that Pedro Caixinha deemed were surplus to requirements.

Garner was signed from Preston at the start of last season for £1.8m with Waghorn costing £250,000 from Wigan a year earlier.

With those two shipped out Caixinha has spent close to £10m on new faces with Carlos Pena costing £3m from Leon of Mexico.

Despite that hefty price tag the midfielder has only played for 25 minutes with concerns expressed at Ibrox over the players lack of fitness.
