Celtic are still working on a deal to sign Patrick Roberts before tonight’s 11pm UEFA deadline.
According to a report just released in The Sun talks with Manchester City continued throughout yesterday despite the winger flying out to Spain yesterday for a week’s training with Pep Guardiola’s squad.
If Celtic manage to get the deal completed today Roberts is unlikely to be involved tomorrow night against Astana but should feature in next Tuesday’s return match.
Roberts doesn’t feature in Guardiola’s plans for the new season but City seem reluctant to send the player back to Celtic.
Reaching the group stage of the Champions League would make a loan more attractive with Celtic hoping to push through a move where Roberts can help Brendan Rodgers’ side reach that stage.
Celtic have also been in talks over a permanent deal but at this stage it seems that City want to retain control and will only discuss a loan move.
