It was the perfect European performance to end a perfect week.

From Dundee to Anderlecht, via Sevco, Celtic won their third match in eight days with a pleasing goal difference of 9-0.

The domestic wins don’t carry much clout or credibility but last night in Brussels Celtic’s reputation was on the line.

Losing 5-0 at home to Paris Saint Germain brought into focus the fact that the home form was no longer all that it had been cracked up to be.

Lots of unpleasant stats were getting an airing in the build up to the match but on the night Celtic delivered more than any fan could have wished for.

The opening 25 minutes wasn’t very convincing but fortunately neither were Anderlecht, eight minutes from half time Celtic moved up a gear and scored a goal that every watching coach would have been pleased with.

When Patrick Roberts found the net in the 50th minute Celtic were suddenly in a match that seemed more tuned in to their dominant domestic form than another Champions League nightmare.

Key men Roberts and Scott Brown were replaced without a hitch with the Anderlecht support resigned to the fact that their side were taking nothing from the match.

Scott Sinclair’s goal completed a brilliant night with thoughts suddenly turning to Bayern Munich and what if…

The Bayern board were clearly thinking along similar lines with Carlo Ancelotti dismissed as the clock tickets down to Celtic’s next Champions League adventure.
