Peter Lawwell has saluted the work that Brendan Rodgers has did to transform Ronny Deila’s squad.

Two years ago Celtic were embarking on a winless Europa League group which featured defeats home and away from Molde of Norway.

Last night in Brussels, with only two of his own signings in the side, Olivier Ntcham and Scott Sinclair, Celtic pulled off a spectacular Champions League win over Anderlecht.

The last time that there was such a change in Celtic’s fortunes it required a multi million pound investment in Martin O’Neill.

Within 12 months Chris Sutton, Joos Valgaeren, Neil Lennon, Allan Thomson and John Hartson had been signed at a cost of close to £30m but over the last year Rodgers has taken a different approach to turning Celtic around.

“So he’s done an incredible job,” Lawwell told STV. “He’s an outstanding manager and outstanding coach, and I’m delighted for him.

“The amount of work he puts in, the coaches put in, the way the players have developed and the way they are performing, it’s been remarkable really.”

Celtic’s next Champions League clash is away to Bayern Munich in three weeks time with the German giants sacking Carlo Ancelotti today after the 3-0 defeat from PSG.
