Sligo had taken the lead before McCourt headed off on a trademark solo run in the 82nd minute to score a goal that left fans stunned- unfortunately former Rangers (IL) starlet Rhys McCabe grabbed a late winner for Sligo.
McCourt spent five seasons at Celtic and although he struggled to nail down a regular place he did score some remarkable goals and was dubbed the Derry Pele by delighted supporters.
Less than 2,000 fans were at the match on Saturday but his goal has gone viral on social media.
