Ferguson’s frustration

Barry Ferguson couldn’t believe what he was seeing as he watched Celtic drop a gear and toy with Sevco at Ibrox.

At 2-0 up the hoops knew that their hosts had chucked it with Brendan Rodgers’ side turning their thoughts to the match with Anderlecht.

There was no response from Pedro Caixinha’s side- mindful of the flack they took after losing 5-1 in April it was a damage limitation exercise with a 2-0 defeat getting transformed into a moral victory in the aftermath.

The ‘two slips’ theory was pushed enthusiastically from various apologists but that didn’t wash with Ferguson who was snubbed when Pedro Caixinha was looking for a third man in the dug out.

After denying any involvement in the demise of Paul le Guen a decade ago the former Rangers (IL) skipper gave his thoughts on Monday’s training ground bust up before focussing on the biggest issue of all.

I watched the game too and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he explained in the Daily Record. “Yes, Rangers did OK for 45 minutes but as soon as Celtic scored the game was over. And when the second one went in it looked to me as if Rangers more or less chucked it.

There was still 26 minutes of the match left but Rangers played like a team happy to escape with a 2-0 defeat. At Ibrox? Against Celtic?

I’m sorry but that’s an insult to the badge on their shirts. They allowed Celtic to dictate the game from that moment on. They allowed Scott Brown to toy with them. They didn’t land a single glove.

Celtic had complete control and they settled for a two-goal win which is fair enough on their part. But for Rangers to settle for a two-goal defeat? That’s simply not acceptable.

It was a surrender and it frustrated the life out of me.”
