Griffiths’ big dilemma

Three and a half years after joining Celtic from Wolves tomorrow marks a very special fixture for Leigh Griffiths- Celtic v Hibs.

The timing of his arrival in the January transfer window, relegation for the Edinburgh side and cup draws have so far prevented the Celtic striker from lining up against the club that he has supported man and boy.

After taking his Celtic tally to 91 in midweek against Anderlecht and with Moussa Dembele back in contention there is absolutely no prospect of sentiment clouding Griffiths’ judgement when he lines up against the cabbage and ribs.

The 27-year-old has scored freely throughout his Celtic career- exactly as he did while on loan to Hibs where he scored 39 goals in two stints.

Most memorably he helped drag Pat Fenlon’s side to two Scottish Cup Finals but had to wait until 2016 to watch from the stands as Hibs ended that long wait.

At 3pm on Saturday the emotions will go on hold which is exactly what the Hibs fans would expect of one of their own.

The chances are that at some future date Griffiths will return to Easter Road to play for Hibs but, like Neil Lennon tomorrow, he’ll be totally professional for the club paying his wages.
