Elite Soccer Entertainment have blamed Sevco fans for the cancellation of Friday’s glamour friendly with Benfica.

Poor ticket sales, numbered in their hundreds rather than their thousands, forced ESE to pull the plug on the match with the Ibrox club threatening legal action.

Outside of Scotland and pockets of the north of Ireland there is little interest in Sevco with the triumphalism of the old club now in tatters.

Recent trips to North America have seen the club playing in fair grounds and college car parks in front of a few hundred die hard fans.

Discovering the reality of their ‘world wide fan base Fernando Pachecho of ESE told The Sun: “Portuguese fans had been responding to the visit, Rangers fans had not. Twenty seven per cent of Hamilton has a Scottish background.

After what they’ve been through the past few years and fought back, there should be support but they were not buying tickets.”

Pedro Caixinha’s star studded squad were due to fly out this morning and enjoy four days in Hamilton, Ontario for the glamour friendly against Benfica reserves.

On Saturday night Sevco issued a statement informing fans that the game was off and putting the blame on Benfica.

With next to no ticket income for the match Benfica pulled out after certain guarantees weren’t met by the organisers.
