Before facing Motherwell Bruno Alves revealed that his best mate Pepe was keen to play for Sevco and get involved in confrontations.

After confronting Louis Moult, a striker with Nuneaton, Northampton, Aldershot, Alferton, Macclesfield and Accrington on his CV, the Portuguese defender is whining about weak refereeing.

Presumably that will be the weak refereeing that saw Moult suffer a face cut in the first half and allowed Alves to kick out at the Motherwell striker while on the ground in the closing minutes.

Sevco were a shambles at Hampden yesterday with the Portuguese element taking the defeat to heart as they lost their discipline spectacularly.

I am just frustrated about what happened because this kind of behaviour is not acceptable,” Alves told The Sun. “I don’t speak so much about the referee because it is a difficult job.

He needs to be really sharp to make a fast decision in the moment, but today was too much for me. Could the referee have done better? I think so.

The first action of the game was the elbow in Fabio’s face. After that, everything can happen.

It doesn’t matter if it was deliberate. He opened the mouth of Fabio and this is not a good thing. This was the beginning.

This is not acceptable. I don’t like to find excuses for when we lose but for me it is really disappointing. I am sad because we lost the game and I am sad about what happened. Fabio broke his nose.

I am disappointed with this. We always come here to play football. We like when football is fast and confrontational but even the first goal is too much. They didn’t allow the goalkeeper to come out of the goal.

This is something that has to change because we want to play football. It was not a good day for us but we will keep on working hard.”

Alves and others will be waiting anxiously to see if the SFA Compliance Officer will act on the indiscipline on show at Hampden.

The Sevco defender looked certain to be red carded following a neck high challenge on Moult which continued when he kicked out at the Motherwell man with both players on the ground.

Incredibly referee Steven McLean booked Moult but refused to even speak to Alves who captained Sevco yesterday.
