Craig Gordon has hit back at Celtic’s Champions League critics.

Wednesday’s tame 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich was followed by a heap of criticism with only Gordon and Scott Brown doing themselves justice.

It was painful viewing for the fans inside the Allianz Arena and those watching on telly with the usual suspects reacting with glee at a rare Celtic defeat.

Gordon has been through the best and worst of Celtic and knows that the club is moving in the right direction.

Two years ago Celtic were losing back to back matches against Molde but halfway through the toughest Champions League group they have picked up more points than Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

We don’t need a reality check,” the Celtic keeper told The Sun. “We know where we are as a team in Europe.

We are still trying to improve and maybe on the outside, people are building us up to knock us down.

As a team, we are just trying to develop. To come to Munich and get anything from the game is a massive ask.

We know it’s very difficult. We are up against two of the teams who could possibly win this competition.”

The hoops get the perfect chance on Saturday to remind their critics of where the team is when they face Hibs in the semi-final of the League Cup.

Neil Lennon’s side are unbeaten this season in Glasgow and drew 2-2 with the hoops following their 3-0 win away to Anderlecht.

Stopping Celtic’s domestic unbeaten run at 59 would be met with joy across the land but with the first trophy of the season just two matches away Brendan Rodgers’ side will be ready for whatever faces them at Hampden.
