Mick McCarthy can’t get over his transfer bargains from Ibrox.
With change out of £1m the Ipswich boss was able to snap up Martyn Waghorn and Joey Garner as Pedro Caixinha sold off the best squad in Scotland.
Ipswich were among the favourites to be relegated from the Championship but thanks to the goals of the former Sevco duo they are sitting in eighth place just two points away from a play off place.
“Why Rangers didn’t want to keep them I don’t know,” McCarthy told the Daily Record. “We’ve been the very fortunate beneficiaries of that one.
“When I heard Waggy was available I thought that can’t be right but we checked it out and he was.”
While Waggers and Garner have been scoring for fun in England only Alfredo Morelos of Caixinha’s summer signings has looked like knowing his way to goal.
Mexican duo Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera cost £5m but have managed just two goals in the SPFL with Sevco in third place ahead of St Johnstone on goal difference.
On Friday Sevco face fourth placed St Johnstone in front of the BT Sport cameras with Caixinha surviving game to game following three humiliating defeats from Celtic on his watch.
