Mikey Johnston is set for his first top team appearance of the season when Celtic host Kilmarnock.

According to a report in The Sun the 18-year-old could be in line for a place in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI as the hoops boss rests a number of players ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Bayern Munich.

Johnston missed the start of this season through injury but was outstanding last week in the UEFA Youth Cup match against Bayern Munich and scored in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Atletico Bilbao in the Premier League International Cup.

The 18-year-old made his first team debut in May against St Johnstone and impressed with his trickery and skill on the ball. After the match he signed a three year contract.

Johnston has come through the ranks at Celtic and was marked out as a special talent at an early age and made a scoring debut for the Development League side as a 15-year-old.

Brendan Rodgers has gone on record with his wish to bring through young players and would rather give them a starting place than a couple of end of season substitute appearances with less at stake for the club.
