Milne gets his reward

Two months after backing the SFA’s serial failure in governance Stewart Milne has been given his reward with Aberdeen hosting a Scotland friendly at home to Holland.

The November 9 fixture seems of little use to anyone with both nations licking their wounds after failing to reach the play-off’s for the World Cup Finals.

After Celtic Aberdeen suffered more than any other club from the SFAs failure to regulate the rule breaches from Rangers (IL).

With various vested interests at play Milne’s move on message is at odds with many Aberdeen fans who feel that everyone is owed an explanation over a number of SFA decisions such as:

a) Was no one alarmed when Barry Ferguson returned to Rangers from Blackburn Rovers on a much smaller contract than the one he had left two years earlier?

b) What action did the SFA take when HMRC served them with a Section 36 order in July 2009?

c) Is the award of the 2011 UEFA licence the only issue that the Compliance Officer should look at?

Despite those issues and more Milne would rather move on with the same decision makers still holding power at Hampden.

At the start of September he said: “I have said it previously and I will say it again: there has been too much negativity in Scottish football for the last few years and it is not healthy for the game.

“Both the SPFL and Scottish FA engaged top-level QCs to give advice on the situations presented to them and dealt with by them. We now must focus our collective efforts on taking Scottish football forward and stop dwelling on the past.

“It is my wish that we all work together to make this happen. The current situation does nobody any favours.”

The match fee and hospitality that Aberdeen will receive should make up for their failure to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup.
