Pedro takes the blame

Pedro Caixinha has taken full responsibility for Sevco’s 2-0 Betfred Cup defeat from Motherwell.

A second half double from Louis Moult ended Sevco’s hopes of three successive wins for the first time under Caixinha.

It was a spineless performance from the best squad in Scotland as they crumbled to a Motherwell team whose total wage bill is less than Carlos Pena.

The chunky midfielder was the first Sevco player to be substituted with Manchester City starlet Aaron Nemane sent on to turn the match around.

Motherwell survived the match without any scares as Caixinha watched from the back of the stand after being ordered from the touchline by referee Steven McLean.

“I am fully responsible for it,” the fifth best coach in Qatar told STV after the final whistle. “The way the team presented itself today was a shade of what we need to be.

“The opponent played better, we let them play their own game and we could not place our game. That’s the main reason they won the game.

“Our performance was really, really poor. When that happens me as a leader have to assume it loud and clear.

“We deserved to lose this match. I created a lot of expectations on them and maybe created a sort of anxiety.

“I can not say that any player had a better performance than anyone else so it was a collective poor performance and individually poor performances.”

With Dave King jetting in from South Africa for the match the pressure is all on Caixinha to justify his £10m summer spending spree.

The South African based criminal must now decide whether he can afford to sack the former Santos Laguna boss although with with finances tight there may be no other option to stick with the former bull-fighter.
