The Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Motherwell on November 26 will become a tribute to Phil O’Donnell.
The Hampden showcase comes a month before the tenth anniversary of the players death at Fir Park while playing against Dundee United.
In 1994 Celtic paid Motherwell £1.75m to sign the midfielder with that fee still a record for the Fir Park club.
According to a report in The Sun both clubs have been approached about making the final a tribute to O’Donnell and instantly agreed.
Former team-mates Simon Donnelly, Jackie McNamara and Darren Jackson have helped set up and support a heart screening charity- Cardiac Risk in the Young- which will host a sportsman’s dinner on November 11.
O’Donnell is fondly remembered at Motherwel as the 18-year-old that scored in their 1991 Scottish Cup Final win over Dundee United, seven years later he was a key member of Wim Jansen’s squad that stopped the ten.
