Graeme Souness feels that Celtic needs a healthy ‘Rangers’.

Exactly what a healthy ‘Rangers’ looks like he never described. It may be the solvent club that he took over in 1986 before he plunged it neck deep in debt but is more likely to be the monster than was paying him an EBT while managing Blackburn Rovers.

A decade after walking away from Ibrox Souness continued to do business with his good friend David Murray taking Barry Ferguson, Tugay, Craig Moore and Jean-Alain Boomsong from Ibrox to England.

Like many wealthy bluenoses, or high net worth fans as many prefer to be described, Souness was on the scene in the summer of 2012 but slipped into the shadows without dipping into his pockets.

With the tribute act on the rocks and Celtic powering towards 10-in-a-row the Scottish football scene has changed considerably since Souness walked away from Rangers (IL) to manage Liverpool in 1991.

A strong Rangers is good for Celtic,” Souness told TalkSPORT this morning trying hard to convince himself of what he was saying. “Would they have had to sell van Dijk, Wanyama and Foster. Do they have to sell their better players if Rangers are strong?

No they wouldn’t therefore the Celtic supporters turning up are not getting a team on the pitch as strong as if Rangers were a threat to them.

It’s not been good for Scottish football whatever way you look at it, a lot of people have enjoyed the demise, enjoyed the difficulties they are in but you need a healthy Rangers to bring the best out of Celtic.”

Thanks for your concerns Graeme, we’re having a party in the Champions League, hopefully you can soon invest in the share issue promised three years ago by your penniless South African based chairman.
