Brendan Rodgers wants his players to re-write history.

With a 60 match unbeaten domestic run talk is starting to move on to an unprecedented repeat treble.

Motherwell stand between Celtic and retaining the Betfred Cup with the hoops short odds favourites to win their seventh consecutive title.

The Scottish Cup defence has still to get underway but since the moment he walked in to Celtic Rodgers has always had a firm grasp of the club’s traditions and records.

“We’ve got to three finals now,” the Celtic boss told BBC Scotland after the 4-2 win over Hibs. “In the last year we’ve written history at this club in terms of a treble and going unbeaten but let’s keep rewriting history.”

Celtic’s next domestic challenge promises to be the most demanding of Rodgers’ reign.

Aberdeen were runners up to the hoops in all three competitions last season and share top spot in the SPFL table, unbeaten after eight matches.

Derek McInnes has had ten days to prepare his side for the Pittodrie showdown while Celtic have been battling away in two different cup competitions.

Following the midweek trip to Aberdeen Celtic are at home to Kilmarnock on Saturday.
