Chris Sutton has slapped down Pedro Caixinha’s claim that Carlos Pena is the victim of a racist witch hunt.

The Sevco boss has played that card a couple of times as he seeks to deflect attention and blame away from his own failings and disastrous signings.

When Pena moved to Ibrox in June he was a £3.5m playmaker nicknamed Gullit but has been downgraded to a £2m midfielder that is adjusting to the pace of Scottish football.

With the loss of the glamour friendly with Benfica Pedro’s caravan will be able to put in extra training sessions at Murray Park ahead of the away trip to St Johnstone on October 13.

There is just one point between third and sixth place in the table, if Sevco slip from third spot it will take more than the race card to save Pedro’s job as the fans finally rumble to another disastrous managerial appointment.

Sutton and BT Sport will show the St Johnstone match live.
