Kieran Tierney won’t ever be daunted by the weight of the Celtic armband.

Two years into his first team career the 20-year-old is already an icon among supporters who have become used to far flung stars rather than heroes from Wishaw.

There are dozens of incidents that have highlighted Tierney’s dedication with social media giving him another link to the supporters he grew up among.

During a spell out injured last season he returned to his roots among the supporters at away matches and has taken the captaincy in his stride this term when Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig have been injured.

I think the fans can relate to who I am and what I’ve been through as well,” he told the Celtic website. “I’m a normal boy with a normal upbringing, working class, and just living in an estate scheme and making it at Celtic. People can see that just with the way I act and who I am on and off the park.”

With thousands of Celtic fans on route to Munich Tierney will have his professional head on as Celtic look to build on their win away to Anderlecht.

Arjen Robben will be his direct opponent but with the experience of last season’s campaign and the backing of Brendan Rodgers the bhoy from Wishaw will take the game in his stride while Brown takes over the armband.
