Mats Hummels sat on the bench last night and was blown away by the Celtic Park atmosphere.

The defender was experienced almost everything during the last decade on duty for Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and the German national side.

Hummels was left out of last night’s starting XI by Jupp Heynckes and was able to enjoy the best of both worlds as he soaked up the atmosphere with a ring side seat on the Bayern bench.

From the moment that both sides stepped onto the pitch there was a buzz of anticipation fuelled by pride as three home-grown bhoys led the way against the German super-power.

Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor and James Forrest attacked Bayern fearlessly and grew stronger as the game developed.

A deft touch from Forrest created Celtic’s equaliser for McGregor but three minutes later Bayern were back in the lead with Javi Martinez heading the decisive goal.

The Allianz Arena is without doubt one of the grandest stadiums in Europe but Hummels and others know that it’s fans that matter and that there is nothing to compare with those that watch the game inside Celtic Park.
