Steve Clarke has emphatically ruled himself out of managing Sevco.

The former Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle assistant has transformed Kilmarnock since taking over from Lee McCulloch prompting envious eyes to be cast his way from Ibrox.

Dave King boxed his board in to appointing an in-work manager with experience of the British game with Clarke one of the few to match that criteria.

While the Derek McInnes saga rumbled on for weeks, ahead of tomorrow’s visit from Sevco Clarke was happy to set the record straight about using Killie as a stepping stone up the M77.

My quote (at the AGM) is ‘it’s not my intention to leave Kilmarnock for any other Scottish club’,” he told the Daily Record. “That’s it. I don’t think I need to elaborate on that. It’s quite clear.

It probably says a lot about me as much as what it says about settling in here. I came here for a reason.

I said at the time that a lot of different reasons fell into place at the right time. Nothing has changed that. I didn’t come here to leave. I came here to do a job.

I came back to Scotland for Kilmarnock. It’s always hard to look too far into the future but it’s definitely not my intention to leave to go to another Scottish club.”

As things stand it seems that Tommy Wright is the only likely candidate to take over at Ibrox but that wouldn’t go down well with supporters who’ve been told that they support a massive club with worldwide appeal.

Should King be forced to step down by the Court of Session ruling on his takeover that would free the board to look elsewhere, extending the search to include Alex McLeish and Billy Davies.
