The extent of the carnage at Ibrox has been exposed by Alex McLeish going public to distance himself from working at the tribute act.

As soon as Mark Warburton was resigned in February the former Aston Villa boss made himself available to every media outlet to talk up the prospect of managing Sevco.

When that idea was dead in the water McLeish reinvented himself as a possible Director of Football but again his phone stated silent as Mark Allen joined Pedro Caixinha in a new dream team.

All year there has only been media calls to the former Scotland boss who hasn’t had a management job in the UK since February 2013.

The toxic nature of the Sevco manager’s job was recently highlighted when Derek McInnes said no thanks with Graeme Murty reluctantly put into the spotlight as doors closed in the face of Managing Director Stewart Robertson.

Speaking to Radio Scotland McLeish admitted: “Rangers, no, I wasn’t contacted but at the moment, it’s not a job that would suit me.

“I’ve got some plans for other things. I’ve still got a lot to give the game.”

McLeish is keen to be linked with the Scotland vacancy even though Michael O’Neill is the preferred choice of the SFA.

During his stint as manager of Rangers (IL) over a decade ago McLeish had £1.7m paid into an ‘EBT’ account which has now been declared as disguised remuneration.
