Ally McCoist has hit out at Bruno Alves after the defender pulled out of Sevco’s match against Kilmarnock.

The former Cagliari ace picked up a mystery knock in training and told Graeme Murty that he was would be letting down his team-mates if he played at Rugby Park.

Alves has had a troubled season after arriving at Ibrox after the Europa League defeat from Progres Niederkorn.

A mystery injury in September ruled him out of the 2-0 defeat from Celtic but he showed his dedication by taking an Easyjet flight to Madrid to get treatment from Ronaldo’s physio.

McCoist watched Sevco chuck away a 1-0 lead against Killie and didn’t hold back from his criticism of Alves.

I don’t know the degree of injury to Alves, but I could count with my fingers and tell you the amount of times I played 100% fit,” he told BT Sport. “You always have something.

The bottom line is at the moment Rangers are soft. I can’t believe I’m saying it, I can’t believe I’m uttering the words. Rangers have a softness about them. I felt for those supporters today who turn up in their numbers and they’re not getting their value.”

David Bates stood in for Alves in defence with Danny Wilson handed the captain’s armband.

All eyes will now be on Murty and Alves ahead of Wednesday’s match at home to Motherwell.

With an austerity plan believed to be underway at Ibrox it could be that Alves and other big earners will be on their way out of Ibrox.
