Kieran Tierney has been selected for UEFA’s Breakthrough Team 2017.

The team is made up of players under the age of 24 who have made a major impact in the elite UEFA competition.

Despite Celtic picking up just three points Tierney played in 12 Champions League ties and didn’t look out of his depth against some of the most expensive players in the game.

According to the UEFA website: “At 20, Tierney has already played over 100 matches for Celtic and captained Scotland. Rated the best British-born left-back of his generation, the youngster’s assist for Leigh Griffiths’ goal in the 3-0 win at Anderlecht was Tierney at his swashbuckling best.”

Tierney recently signed a new six year contract to remain at Celtic- the club that he joined as a seven-year-old.

As well as excelling at left-back he has also played in central defence on a couple of occasions as well as at right-back for Celtic.

Ronny Deila gave Tierney his Celtic debut in April 2015 with the teenager ousting Emilio Izaguirre early in the 2015/16 season and going on to establish himself as an essential element of the team under the Norwegian and his successor Brendan Rodgers.
