Derek McInnes has hit out at the whispering campaign to take him to Ibrox.

Despite a statement from chairman Stewart Milne repeated by his manager, Aberdeen have been under siege with Sevco unable to find a new manager.

After staying vague at the club AGM on Thursday Dave King claimed in an interview with ‘Rangers TV’ that Pedro Caixinha’s successor is under contract with experience of British football.

That has been enough to reignite the campaign to ‘bring Del home’ with the fixture list throwing up back-to-back clashes between Sevco and Aberdeen.

Once again McInnes is expected to be unveiled as Ibrox this week with the Dons boss slamming the way that the story has been handled.

I made my position clear weeks ago,” he told the Aberdeen website. “There comes a point where it’s just dragged on and dragged on. I’m not happy with how it’s been handled, and I know you boys (the media) have a job to do, but you must be getting fed some sort of stuff so there’s been plenty of encouragement to run stories.

Ex-players seem to know a lot more than everybody else and everybody seems to be in the know. Every other day there seems to be somebody giving an opinion on my future.

Today was all about the game and it was good to get it out the way and play the game and try to win it.

The motivation was clear after Wednesday night and my job is to try and get a winning team on the pitch and not constantly fend off questions. It’s wrong for me to comment on speculation. For me I’m the Aberdeen manager and my job is to try and get a winning team on the pitch and that’s all I’ve ever done.”

Some bookies had McInnes priced at 1/25 to become the next Sevco boss with a frenzy of anticipation built up.

It’s believed that Aberdeen would be entitled to £1m compensation if McInnes and his assistant, Anthony Docherty leave the club.

During the summer the former Morton midfielder held talks with Sunderland about replacing Davie Moyes but decided to stay at Pittodrie.
