After being fed the news that Tony Pulis is being lined up as their new manager Sevco fans can take comfort from the likely signing of Steven Naismith next month.

The Norwich striker is fit again and keen to talk up a move to Ibrox at every opportunity.

During the summer he went as far as telling Radio Scotland that his famous ‘it’s not the same club’ statement in 2012 was actually a misunderstanding and that the club he walked away from were actually still in business!

Transfer activity at Ibrox in January is likely to be one way out the door as the club attempt to recover the losses racked up by Pedro Caixinha with wee Naisy an expensive and injury prone risk too far even on a token wage.

Pleading for a move to Ibrox the former Rangers (IL) striker told the Daily Mail: “I wouldn’t say I have unfinished business with Rangers because we were successful and won a lot of trophies when I was there.

Unfortunately, the way I left wasn’t great. I still watch all their games on TV and still speak to all the players and staff I know at the club.

I love hearing how things are going. I still support Rangers and I want them to do well.

Fortunately, when I come back to Scotland it’s not going to be about finances. It’ll be about what I think is the right fit for me. That’ll be the main thing.

First of all, you need people at the clubs to want you and you need to see what options are available.

A return to Rangers would appeal. I’ve spoken in the past about Kilmarnock and Rangers and being appreciative for what they did for me as a player. I would look at those clubs and see if they were options to start with.”

At the time of his Ibrox departure, refusing to TUPE over to Sevco, there was little criticism of the player with most of the anger directed at Charles Green for failing to put together a CVA and allowing the club to die.

Once the survival myth took root Naisy and Steven Whittaker took the flack of angry fans who failed to follow the examples of Motherwell, Dundee and Livingston as they saved their club from joining Third Lanark, Airdrie and Gretna in the morgue of Scottish football.
