The former Hibs man had missed an easier chance a few minutes and has recently been the subject of media mischief suggesting that he has fallen down the pecking order and could be on his way out of Celtic.
Asked if Griffiths was the man to start on Saturday Rodgers told BT Sport: “Well I hope that he feels that he is (the man). The star of our team is always the team.
“What he did do was come in and score a very good goal, we’ll recover then see who is the best team for the next game.”
James Forrest opened the scoring for Celtic after just eight minutes but the result was married by a serious looking injury to Jonny Hayes.
The former Aberdeen winger was stretchered off after a foul by Josh Meekings that required lengthy treatment on the pitch.
Scott Sinclair missed the match through injury but is expected to be fit for Saturday’s match which is the final fixture before the winter break.
